Does Your Library Need a Second Life?

Looking for opportunities to connect with your teens? Want to give your adult customers the opportunity to virtually fly? You can by introducing them to Second Life! Second Life.com, the online world, offers multiple opportunities to librarians and patrons for social networking, gaming and exploration.

There’s been quite a buzz since ALA announced they had been given space in the virtual world known as Second Life. This workshop will introduce participants to the ways that librarians are using Second Life to connect with their patrons and for themselves.

Participants will learn how to:

• create avatars
• navigate the virtual world at Secondlife.com
• create a free basic account
• explore this virtual world (and most popular spots to visit)
• check in on ALA’s island
• much more that will interest you and your patrons

This is a half-day workshop. Participants will be given the opportunity to create their own avatar and to begin exploring their own Second Life.
